Things to Do for All Ages Near Manassas, VA

Manassas is one of the most popular travel destinations in northern Virginia, because of its rich historical heritage and abundance of outdoor opportunities. If you are living or vacationing in this city with your family, you will be pleased to know that it has many attractions that provide a fun time for people of all ages. Check out these attractions while you are in Manassas.

Bull Run Regional Park

Bull Run Regional Park features about 1,500 acres of beautiful natural space and amenities for a wide range of outdoor activities. If you wish to do some hiking, you can explore miles of scenic trails, including the 19-mile Bull Run Occoquan Trail. Children can swim and enjoy waterslides at the Atlantis Waterpark or have fun at the playground. Other amenities available in the park include a disc golf course, large picnic areas, a campground, and cottages.

Bull Run Regional Park is situated about 3 miles north of downtown Manassas on Bull Run Drive in Centreville. The main park is open year-round for picnicking, hiking, and camping. Entrance fees are $8 per day for each vehicle and $12 per day for each vehicle with 10 or more passengers.

Manassas National Battlefield Park

Drawing over 900,000 visitors a year, the 5,000-acre Manassas National Battlefield Park offers great entertainment and education for people of all ages. It is the site of two significant Civil War battles: the First Battle of Bull Run in 1861 and the Second Battle of Bull Run in 1862.

At the south entrance, you will find the Henry Hill Visitor Center, which features exhibits on the First Battle of Bull Run and a 45-minute orientation film titled “Manassas: End of Innocence.” You can explore the park on a walking, driving, or equestrian tour. Some of the interesting structures and sites you will see during your tour include the Stone Bridge, Stone House, Matthews Hill, Brawner Farm Interpretative Center, Robinson House, and Battery Heights.

Manassas National Battlefield Park is on Sudley Road. It is open from dawn to dusk every day. Admission is free, but donations are welcome.

Harris Pavilion

If you happen to be in Manassas during winter, you can enjoy ice-skating with your family or friends at the Harris Pavilion. This historic pavilion is one of the most recognizable landmarks in the city, and it transforms into a beautiful ice-skating rink in the winter. It features music to skate to and premium lighting as well as offering skating lessons for skaters of all skill levels. Just steps from the pavilion, you will find many great places for shopping and dining.

Harris Pavilion is right in the heart of historic downtown Manassas on Center Street. It is open daily from November to February. Admission fees are $9 for adults and $8 for children 10 and younger.

There are many other attractions around Manassas that are suitable for people of all ages, including the SplashDown Waterpark, The Candy Factory, Stonewall Park, Signal Bay Waterpark, and Hemlock Overlook Regional Park.
